#3 Elsa’s Ice Castle from Frozen

#3 Elsa's Ice Castle from Frozen

If you have a Frozen-loving child, you know how much they adore Elsa, Anna, and the whole gang. And what better way to bring their favorite movie to life than by building Elsa’s ice castle? With just some blue and purple magnetic tiles, you can create a magical playtime experience.

Instead of making a replica of the castle’s exterior, we decided to focus on the scenes that my daughter loves the most: Anna walking up the staircase to talk to Elsa and Elsa singing “Let It Go” from the balcony. So we created a cut-out version of the castle, giving her the ability to walk the characters up and down the stairs and have Elsa perform on the balcony.

To achieve the curved staircase effect, we used isosceles triangles supported by squares, which created a gentle curve. The more layers of stairs you add, the better the effect. And for added safety, we used right-angled triangles to make a stair rail. This same technique can be used to create a spiral staircase for other builds if you have enough tiles.

To ensure stability, we utilized a blue base plate as the back wall. This not only kept the mezzanine floor in place but also connected all the pieces to the base plate magnets and each other. To complete the look, we used purple fence tiles to create beautiful railings for the balcony.

My daughter spent hours playing with her new castle, even inviting other princesses over to join in the fun. And the best part? She continued to play with it for days to come.

So why not create your very own Elsa’s ice castle and watch your child’s imagination soar? Start building your magical masterpiece today.

#4 Corona Castle from the Disney Movie Tangled

After successfully building Elsa’s castle, my daughter immediately insisted on creating Rapunzel’s castle from her second favorite Disney movie, Tangled. Though I had initially planned to construct Gothel’s tower for a more dramatic reenactment, my daughter emphatically declared that she wanted the castle instead. So, we happily embarked on building Corona castle, because who am I to argue with a determined 3-year-old?

In Tangled, Corona castle serves as Rapunzel’s birthplace and later becomes her home with Flynn (Eugene) and her parents, Queen Arianna and King Frederic, once she discovers her true identity as the lost princess. The castle is also featured as the location where the lanterns are released each year on Rapunzel’s birthday. I suspect this was the main reason my daughter wanted to recreate the castle rather than Gothel’s tower.

Corona Castle is an island castle perched high on a mountain surrounded by village houses. Its defining features include steep red roofs and numerous towers topped with blue domes. The castle boasts a central balcony where the lanterns are released annually.

To create the island for Corona castle, I utilized a cardboard box covered in green fabric and adorned it with a blue play silk to represent water. I added several miniature houses around the base of the island to depict the village homes. A green base plate served as a stable foundation for the castle, while a combination of yellow and orange squares, including larger ones, formed the layers of the castle’s many towers.

I took care to include the central balcony, higher walls, steeped roof, and two tall towers in the castle’s design. For the blue domed roofs, I improvised using equilateral triangles, the closest approximation I could create with the available tiles.

Join in the magic of Tangled by constructing your own enchanting Corona castle and relive the charm of Rapunzel’s captivating story.

#5 Prince Eric’s Castle from The Little Mermaid

Growing up, my favorite Disney movie was The Little Mermaid, and I’m thrilled that my girls share the same love for it. We’ve had countless hours of joy singing along to “Part Of Your World” and creating our undersea adventures. And now, they’re more excited than ever about this amazing castle project.

In the movie, Ariel first encounters Prince Eric when she saves him from a shipwreck during a tumultuous storm. Eric’s castle plays a pivotal role in the story, with Ariel often gazing at it longingly from her spot on a rocky outcrop in the ocean. Nestled at the base of a cliff on the ocean shore, the castle’s standout features include a walkway above the waves leading to a bathhouse, as well as a side staircase entrance to the shore.

Eric’s castle is larger and more grandiose than the other castles, making it a bit more challenging to recreate. However, by using a combination of yellow, orange, and red tiles, I was able to capture its essence perfectly. I also added a touch of blue with a scarf, some rocks, and sea animal figurines, allowing the girls to play with both mermaid Ariel in the ocean and Ariel and Eric on land in the castle. For added fun, you can even build a magnetic boat to reenact the thrilling storm and wedding scenes from the movie.

Embark on a creative journey with your little ones or indulge in your nostalgic love for The Little Mermaid. Let the allure of Prince Eric’s castle captivate your imagination and bring your favorite movie to life. Dive in and start building today!

#6 Beast’s Castle from Beauty and the Beast

Discover the enchanting world of Beast’s castle, the captivating setting of the beloved film Beauty and the Beast. Hidden deep within a dangerous and mysterious forest, this castle stands as a formidable fortress after Prince Adam is cursed and transformed into a Beast by an enchantress.

Immerse yourself in the film’s storyline as Belle finds herself imprisoned within the castle, alongside Beast’s loyal servants Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Pott, and Chip. Her selfless act of trading places with her father Maurice sets off a chain of events that leads to a blossoming love between Belle and Beast, ultimately transforming the once gloomy castle into a magnificent home.

Feast your eyes on the striking architecture of Beast’s castle, featuring numerous towers with distinctive triangular red roofs and a captivating central balcony. To recreate this iconic structure, I utilized a base plate to ensure stability for the yellow towers, and employed a combination of isosceles, equilateral, and right-angled red triangles, along with small red rectangles, to craft the roofs. While limited resources prevented a three-dimensional construction for all the towers, the base plate proved to be a valuable asset in achieving the desired effect without compromising stability.

Embark on a thrilling journey as you bring Beast’s castle to life, and experience the enchantment of one of Disney’s most iconic locations.

#7 Prince Charming’s Castle from Cinderella

Discover the iconic Disney castle that has captured the hearts of thousands of tourists at Disneyland. This enchanting castle is none other than Cinderella’s, which brings to life the timeless tale of rags to riches. Step into the magic of Disney as we guide you through building your very own Prince Charming castle.

This castle serves as the backdrop for the famous ball in Cinderella. With its grand entrance gates and towering blue cone roofs, it’s a sight to behold. Using window pieces for the entrance gates and a blue base plate for stability, construct multiple yellow towers to complete the castle’s structure. While you can make the towers three-dimensional with proper cone roofs using triangles, we understand that not having enough tiles may be a challenge.

Bring the magic of the ball to life with the Little People Cinderella carriage. Your child will delight in transporting Cinderella and other princesses to and from the castle. With easily accessible gates and plenty of space for dolls, this castle provides endless hours of playtime for your little one.

Remember, when attempting to recreate any Disney castle, perfection is not necessary for imaginative play. Our castles were modeled after the cartoon versions, and even though they may not be exact replicas, the girls still recognized and enjoyed playing with each one. So, don’t hesitate to give it a try even if you don’t have the same tiles as shown in our photos. Let your creativity soar and create your own magical experience.

#8 Transform surface

Transform your metal surfaces with creative decorations. From cookie sheets and table legs to fridges and garage doors, the possibilities are endless. Inspire your kids to explore new play experiences by providing them with unique surfaces to unleash their imagination.

One favorite is using the metallic frame from our living room table to construct a charming walk-in fort. Unleash their creativity and make the most of your metal surfaces.

#9 Topple the Tower

Engage your little ones in a simple yet immensely gratifying activity. Encourage them to construct the tallest tower they can manage, only to witness the thrilling moment when it all comes crashing down.

Pelt softballs or bean bags at the tower, swing an O’ball on a string towards the ceiling or give it a swift kick to see it tumble to the ground. There’s something incredibly satisfying about letting children unleash their destructive side, especially on such a grand scale!

We recommend doing this activity on a carpet or mat to minimize any potential damage. While we haven’t encountered any broken magnets so far, it’s always wise to exercise caution. Proceed at your own risk and enjoy the excitement with your little ones.

#10 Unleash creativity with peg dolls for imaginative play

Enhance your child’s creativity with imaginative play using peg dolls. By adding various toys such as animals and small toys, your child can build their very own houses, zoos, or schools. Our top recommendation for peg doll additions is the vibrant rainbow friends from Grimms.

These perfectly sized and colored dolls complement the magnets, making them a go-to choice for my kids whenever they play with magnetic tiles. The versatile combination of peg dolls and magnets even eliminates the need for a traditional doll house.

#11 Farmyard play

Engage your children with a captivating Magna Tile barn for farmyard play. Not only will they enjoy sorting animals into categories, but they will also enhance their hand-eye coordination and grasp the concept of size discrimination. Watch as they construct unique pens of different sizes to accommodate a variety of animals.

#12 Discover the Art of Design with Magnetic Tiles

Immerse yourself in the exciting world of symmetry and pattern-making with magnetic tiles. Create vibrant rainbow houses using these versatile tiles, and enhance the experience by constructing roads to connect them. To amplify the visual appeal, match our DIY wooden peg dolls to their respective colored houses and crown each dwelling with a charming crochet flower roof.

While seemingly simple, this playtime activity encompasses a multitude of valuable skills. Engage in engineering as you meticulously plan and construct the structures. Develop an eye for design by sorting and matching colors. Encourage pattern-making, fine motor skills, and problem-solving. Unlock your creativity and imagination through storytelling. Foster focus and concentration as you bring your vision to life.
